Sticky, sweet and delicious! This teriyaki salmon is SO easy to make – it only requires 5 ingredients and comes together in just 15 minutes, making it perfect for weeknight dinners. The teriyaki sauce recipe is adapted from my friend @sarahjapan123’s recipe – check her out, her food is amazing! Unlike the shop-bought variety, which is often thick and rather gloopy, this sauce is quite thin, which is much closer to a traditional Japanese teriyaki sauce.

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 3 1x
  • Category: Fish and Seafood

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tbsps soy sauce (dark, regular or low salt)
  • 4 tbsps mirin
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3 salmon fillets
  • vegetable oil (or any neutral oil)

Instructions

  1. Place the soy sauce, mirin and sugar in a bowl and whisk until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Heat a small splash of vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Place the salmon in the pan skin side down. Cook for 2 minutes on each side for a total of 8 minutes.
  3. Add the sauce and let it cook for 2 minutes, using tongs to turn the salmon in the sauce. Remove the saucepan from the heat. You should be left with a thin, delicious sauce, which is much closer to traditional Japanese teriyaki sauce than the thick, rather gloopy shop bought variety. Serve with steamed rice and veg and enjoy!
